NLWeb (Natural Language Web) is a protocol that allows AI agents and language models to query your website using natural language and receive structured responses. Think of it as making your website conversational, not for human visitors, but for AI systems that want to retrieve specific information from your site. Wix has rolled this out to all English-language Premium sites through the SEO and GEO dashboard, making it one of the first platforms to offer this natively.
What NLWeb Actually Does
At its core, NLWeb provides a standardised way for AI agents to ask your website questions and get structured answers back. When an AI system, whether that is ChatGPT, Perplexity, a voice assistant, or an AI shopping agent, wants information from your site, NLWeb gives it a clean interface to retrieve that data in JSON format, typically using Schema.org vocabulary.
Without NLWeb, AI systems have to scrape your HTML, parse through navigation menus, advertisements, and formatting to find the information they need. With NLWeb, they can query your site directly and receive exactly the data they asked for in a machine-readable format.
Why This Matters for SEO in 2026
The web is shifting from a document-based model to a query-based model. Traditional SEO prepared your pages to be found by search engine crawlers that index HTML documents. NLWeb prepares your site to be queried by AI agents that want specific answers. Both matter, but the AI query model is growing rapidly and sites that support it will have a significant advantage in AI-powered search results, recommendations, and citations.
Enabling and Configuring NLWeb on Your Wix Site
Setting up NLWeb through the Wix dashboard
- Log into your Wix dashboard and navigate to the SEO and GEO section under Marketing.
- Look for the AI Visibility or NLWeb configuration panel. This is where Wix manages your site's AI discoverability settings.
- Verify that NLWeb is active for your site. On English-language Premium sites, it should be enabled by default.
- Review which content types are exposed through NLWeb. By default, Wix exposes your main pages, blog posts, and product listings.
- Check the structured data format. NLWeb responses use Schema.org vocabulary, so ensure your existing structured data (Organisation, Product, Article schemas) is accurate.
- Test your NLWeb endpoint by checking the AI Visibility dashboard for any errors or content gaps.
What Content NLWeb Exposes to AI Systems
- Your business name, description, and contact information from your site settings
- Individual page content including headings, body text, and structured data
- Blog post titles, excerpts, categories, and full content
- Product listings with prices, descriptions, availability, and images
- Service descriptions and booking information if you use Wix Bookings
- FAQ content if you have structured FAQ sections on your pages
How to Verify and Improve Your NLWeb Configuration on Wix
How to check your NLWeb setup and improve the structured data it serves to AI agents
- Log in to your Wix dashboard at manage.wix.com and navigate to Marketing & SEO in the left sidebar.
- Open the SEO and GEO section and locate the AI Visibility or NLWeb configuration panel.
- Check the status indicator to confirm NLWeb is active on your site. If inactive, look for an Enable button and follow the on-screen prompt.
- Review the list of content types currently exposed through NLWeb. Confirm your main pages, blog posts, and product or service listings are all included.
- Navigate to each core page in the Wix Editor and open the SEO tab. Ensure every page has a completed meta title, meta description, and at least one structured data block in the Structured Data Markup field.
- Open your homepage and verify that your Organisation or LocalBusiness schema includes accurate name, address, telephone, openingHours, and url properties, as these are the fields AI agents query most frequently.
- Visit your site's structured data by appending ?format=json to your homepage URL if your plan supports it, or use Google's Rich Results Test to check each key page.
- Correct any errors flagged in the Wix AI Visibility dashboard, focusing first on missing required properties in your most-visited pages.
- After making corrections, use the Wix AI Visibility dashboard to monitor whether AI platform referral traffic increases over the following two to four weeks.
NLWeb vs Traditional SEO Signals
NLWeb does not replace traditional SEO. Your meta titles, descriptions, heading hierarchy, and content quality still determine how Google ranks your pages. NLWeb adds a parallel channel that AI systems can use to access your content more efficiently. Think of robots.txt as telling crawlers what they can access, your sitemap as telling them what exists, and NLWeb as giving them a direct conversational interface to your content.
Monitoring AI Queries to Your Site
The Wix AI Visibility dashboard shows you data on how AI systems are interacting with your site, including which AI platforms are referencing your content, how often your site appears in AI-generated responses, and what queries are leading AI systems to your content. This data is invaluable for understanding your AI visibility beyond traditional search rankings.
