Search Generative Experience (SGE)

The original codename for Google's AI-powered search experience, now called AI Overview.

SGE was the experimental name for Google's generative AI search features tested in Search Labs from 2023 to 2024. Following expanded rollout, Google rebranded the feature as AI Overview. The underlying technology continues evolving with broader query coverage and integrations with Google Lens and conversational search.
