Redirect Chain

A sequence of redirects between an initial URL and the final destination.

Redirect chains slow down page loads, consume crawl budget and risk losing link equity at each hop. Best practice is direct 1-hop redirects from old URL straight to final destination. Audit tools like Screaming Frog, Sitebulb and Wix's redirect checker identify chains across a site for cleanup.
