Redirect

A server response that sends users and crawlers from one URL to another.

Redirects come in 301 (permanent), 302 (temporary), 307 (temporary, method-preserving), 308 (permanent, method-preserving) and 410 (resource gone) variants. 301s are preferred for permanent moves and pass nearly all link equity. Redirect chains and loops harm crawl budget and user experience; aim for direct 1-hop redirects whenever possible.
