Google Sandbox

An informal term for the perceived ranking limitations on new sites.

Google has never officially confirmed a sandbox, but new domains commonly experience suppressed rankings for several months as Google evaluates trustworthiness. Effects fade as the site accumulates content, links and engagement signals. Domain age effects are real but often overestimated; high-quality new sites with strong off-page signals can rank quickly.
