First Contentful Paint (FCP)

A performance metric measuring when the first DOM content renders on screen.

FCP measures perceived load progress: faster FCP feels more responsive even before full page completion. Good FCP is under 1.8 seconds. While not a Core Web Vital, FCP serves as a useful diagnostic alongside LCP. Optimising FCP requires reducing render-blocking resources and serving critical content early.
