Wix SEO Assistant: page-level recommendations and task management

The Wix SEO Assistant is a per-page analysis tool that evaluates individual pages on your site and provides specific recommendations to improve their search performance. Unlike the AI Marketing Agent which operates at the strategic level, the SEO Assistant focuses on tactical, page-by-page optimisation: checking your title tags, meta descriptions, heading structure, image alt text, internal links, and content quality. This lesson shows you how to use it effectively without wasting time on low-impact suggestions.
Accessing the SEO Assistant
The SEO Assistant is available when editing any page in the Wix Editor. Look for the SEO tab or lightbulb icon in the page settings panel. It scans the current page and generates a list of recommendations ranked by priority. Each recommendation includes an explanation of why it matters and a direct action to fix it.
Understanding Recommendation Priority Levels
- Critical: issues that are actively preventing the page from performing in search, such as a missing title tag, a noindex directive you did not intend, or duplicate content
- High Priority: improvements that will have a meaningful impact on rankings, such as optimising an underperforming title tag or adding missing alt text to key images
- Medium Priority: refinements that improve overall page quality, such as improving internal linking or expanding thin content sections
- Low Priority: nice-to-have improvements that have minimal ranking impact but improve overall SEO hygiene
The Task Management System
Every recommendation can be converted into a task that tracks completion. This is useful for teams working on SEO together, as tasks can be assigned and progress tracked. The task system integrates with the broader Wix dashboard, so you can see outstanding SEO tasks alongside your other business tasks.
Working through SEO Assistant recommendations efficiently
- Open the SEO Assistant for your highest-traffic pages first. These pages have the most to gain from optimisation.
- Focus on Critical and High Priority recommendations only. Ignore Low Priority items unless you have completed everything else.
- For title tag recommendations, always apply your own keyword research rather than accepting the AI suggestion verbatim.
- When the assistant flags thin content, use it as a prompt to add genuine expertise rather than just adding words.
- Review internal linking suggestions carefully. The assistant may recommend links that do not make sense in context.
- After completing recommendations, check the page in Google Search Console to verify the changes are reflected.
How to Run the Wix SEO Assistant on a Service Page and Act on Its Findings
How to use the Wix SEO Assistant to audit and improve a single service page from start to finish
- Log in to your Wix dashboard and click Edit Site to open the Wix Editor. Navigate to the service page you want to audit using the Pages panel.
- Open the page settings panel by clicking the page name in the top bar, then select the SEO tab.
- Scroll to the SEO Checklist or Assistant section. If prompted, enter your primary target keyword for this page before the analysis runs.
- Read through all Critical and High Priority recommendations first. Note which relate to your title tag, meta description, H1 heading, and image alt text as these have the highest impact.
- Click the first Critical recommendation. The assistant will either link directly to the setting you need to fix or highlight the element on the page canvas.
- Fix the title tag: clear the existing text, type your primary keyword naturally within the first 60 characters, and include your brand name if space allows.
- Fix the meta description: write a new 150-character summary that includes your target keyword and ends with a clear call to action relevant to the page intent.
- For any flagged images, click each image on the canvas, open its Settings panel, and add descriptive alternative text that includes the page keyword where genuinely relevant.
- After completing all Critical and High Priority fixes, re-run the SEO Assistant by clicking the refresh or re-analyse button to confirm all issues are resolved.
- Publish the updated page and submit the URL to Google Search Console using the URL Inspection tool, then click Request Indexing to prompt Google to crawl the improved version.
When to Ignore Recommendations
- When a title tag suggestion removes your brand name or primary keyword in favour of a generic alternative
- When it recommends adding keywords to content that would sound unnatural to a reader
- When internal link suggestions point to irrelevant or low-quality pages on your site
- When content length recommendations suggest padding content to hit an arbitrary word count
- When it conflicts with your deliberate keyword mapping strategy
