By Michael Andrews, Wix SEO Expert UK
TikTok has become the fastest-growing search engine in the world, with over 1.5 billion monthly active users and 40% of Gen Z preferring TikTok over Google for searches. TikTok SEO is now a standalone discipline that directly impacts brand visibility, referral traffic and entity authority. Google now surfaces TikTok videos directly in search results, meaning a well-optimised TikTok presence creates additional SERP real estate for your brand. This lesson covers the complete setup of your TikTok Business account and the comprehensive SEO strategies that drive traffic to your Wix website.

Complete How-To: Creating and Optimising Your TikTok Business Account
Part 1: Account Creation and Business Setup
- Download the TikTok app on your phone. Unlike some platforms, TikTok is mobile-first and most features are only available on the app. You can view analytics on desktop via business.tiktok.com later.
- Create a new account using your business email address. Tap "Use phone or email" > "Email" and enter your business email. Set a strong, unique password.
- Go to Settings and Privacy > Manage Account > Switch to Business Account. TikTok Business accounts provide analytics, the ability to add a website link in your bio, access to TikTok Ads Manager, and commercial music licensing.
- Select your business category from the available options. This affects how TikTok recommends your content to relevant audiences. Choose the most specific category available that matches your business.
- Set your username. Tap "Edit Profile" and set your username to match your other social profiles exactly: @yourbusinessname. Usernames must be 2-24 characters, lowercase, with no spaces. If your exact name is taken, try adding your location: @yourbusinessuk.
- Upload your profile photo (logo). Tap your profile picture circle and upload your logo at 200x200px minimum. Like Instagram, this displays as a circle, so ensure your logo works in that crop.
- Optionally set a profile video. TikTok allows a short looping video as your profile picture. This is highly recommended as it catches attention when users visit your profile. Create a 6-second branded animation or team greeting.
Part 2: Bio and Link Optimisation
- Write your bio (80 characters maximum). This is extremely tight, so every character matters. Include: what you do + who you serve + a CTA. Example: "Wix SEO Expert | Ranking small biz on Google | Free tips below".
- Add your Wix website URL. Business accounts can add a clickable link in their bio immediately (personal accounts need 1,000 followers). Use a UTM-tagged URL: https://www.yourdomain.com?utm_source=tiktok&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=bio_link. Or use a link-in-bio tool if you want to link to multiple pages.
- Add your business email address in the Contact section. Tap "Edit Profile" > "Contact" > "Email". This creates a clickable email button on your profile.
- Verify your identity. If eligible, apply for TikTok verification (blue checkmark) through Settings > Manage Account > Verification. Verified accounts get priority in search results and appear more trustworthy.

TikTok's recommendation algorithm is the most powerful content discovery system in social media. Unlike other platforms where follower count determines reach, TikTok evaluates each video independently. Understanding these ranking factors is essential for creating content that reaches your target audience.
TikTok SEO: Optimising Every Video for Search Discovery
TikTok SEO works similarly to traditional SEO: you optimise content around keywords that your target audience is searching for. The key difference is that TikTok analyses multiple content signals: text captions, on-screen text, spoken words, hashtags, and even the visual content of your video.
Complete How-To: Optimising a TikTok Video for Search
Follow these steps for every video you publish
- Research your target keyword before filming. Open TikTok and type your topic in the search bar. Note the autocomplete suggestions, these are actual terms people search for. Search for "Wix SEO" and you might see: "Wix SEO settings", "Wix SEO tips", "Wix SEO vs WordPress SEO". Choose the most relevant suggestion as your primary keyword.
- Script your video with the keyword in mind. Mention your target keyword naturally in the first 3 seconds of your video (spoken out loud). TikTok transcribes audio for search indexing, so speaking your keyword helps the algorithm categorise your content.
- Add on-screen text that includes your keyword. TikTok's OCR (Optical Character Recognition) reads text overlays in videos. Add your target keyword as text on screen within the first 2 seconds. Example: large text reading "Wix SEO Tip" at the start of a tutorial video.
- Film with a strong hook in the first 1.5 seconds. The most critical metric is completion rate. Start with a bold statement, question, or visual that stops scrollers: "90% of Wix sites make this SEO mistake" or "Here is the free tool that doubled my traffic".
- Keep the video between 30-90 seconds for optimal completion rate. Shorter videos have higher completion rates, which boosts algorithmic distribution. For complex tutorials, break into a series rather than one long video.
- Write a keyword-rich caption (150-300 characters). Place your primary keyword in the first sentence. Write naturally but ensure the caption clearly describes the video content. Example: "How to set up Wix SEO properly in 5 steps. Most people skip step 3 and it costs them 50% of their traffic."
- Use the expanded description field (up to 2,200 characters). TikTok now offers a long-form description option. Use it to provide detailed context, include secondary keywords, add timestamps if applicable, and include a CTA to visit your Wix site.
- Add 3-5 targeted hashtags. Mix: 1 broad (#SEO, #WebDesign), 2 medium (#WixTips, #SEOforBeginners, #SmallBusinessTips), 1-2 niche (#WixSEO, your branded hashtag). Do not use more than 5 hashtags; the algorithm prioritises quality over quantity.
- Select a trending sound if appropriate. Videos using trending audio get up to 50% more distribution. Go to the Discover page to find trending sounds, or use TikTok Creative Centre to research trending audio. If your video relies on narration, use the trending sound at low volume as background.
- Add a thumbnail that includes text. After uploading, select a thumbnail frame and add text overlay. Thumbnails with text get higher click-through rates from search results and profile grids.
- Include a CTA at the end of every video. Tell viewers to follow, visit your website, or check the link in your bio. End with: "Follow for more Wix SEO tips" or "Full guide on my website, link in bio".
- Pin a comment with your Wix site URL. Immediately after publishing, add a comment with your URL and pin it. Pinned comments are the first thing viewers see when they open the comments section.
