By Michael Andrews, Wix SEO Expert UK
YouTube is the world's second-largest search engine, processing over 3 billion searches per month. YouTube videos appear directly in Google search results, Google Discover, and Google Image Search. For Wix website owners, a properly optimised YouTube channel creates a powerful traffic funnel: viewers discover your video content, engage with your expertise, and click through to your Wix site for services, products or detailed guides. This lesson covers the complete YouTube channel setup, video SEO strategy, and the data that proves YouTube's impact on website traffic.

Complete How-To: Creating and Optimising Your YouTube Channel
Part 1: Channel Creation and Basic Setup
- Sign in to YouTube with the Google account you use for Google Search Console and Google Analytics. Using the same Google account creates an implicit entity connection between your website analytics and your YouTube channel.
- Click your profile icon > Create a Channel. You will have the option to create a personal channel or a Brand Account. Choose Brand Account if multiple people will manage the channel, or personal if you are the sole content creator.
- Set your channel name to your exact business name as it appears on all other platforms. Example: "Frontline Web" not "Frontline Web - SEO Tips and Tutorials".
- Upload your channel profile picture (logo) at 800x800px. This appears as a circle next to every video, comment and community post.
- Upload your channel banner (channel art) at 2560x1440px. The safe area for all devices is 1546x423px (centered). Your banner should: display your brand name, show your posting schedule (e.g., "New SEO Tips Every Wednesday"), include your Wix site URL as text, and use your brand colours.
- Create a channel watermark. Go to YouTube Studio > Settings > Channel > Branding > Video Watermark. Upload a transparent PNG (150x150px) of your logo. This watermark appears on all videos and acts as a subscribe button when viewers hover over it.
Part 2: Channel SEO Settings
- Navigate to YouTube Studio > Settings > Channel > Basic Info.
- Write your channel description (1,000 characters). This is indexed by Google and appears on your channel's About page. Include: what your channel covers, who it is for, your credentials, your posting schedule, and links to your Wix site. Place your primary keyword in the first sentence.
- Set your channel keywords. Under Settings > Channel > Basic Info, add 7-10 keywords that describe your channel. Include your brand name, primary services, and key topics. Example: "Wix SEO, SEO tips, Wix tutorial, search engine optimisation, small business SEO, Wix website, SEO agency".
- Add your Wix website URL and all social profile links in the Links section. YouTube displays these as clickable buttons on your channel page. Your website link appears most prominently.
- Set your channel country to your business location (United Kingdom, United States, etc.).
- Configure your default upload settings. Go to YouTube Studio > Settings > Upload Defaults. Set: default description template (include your standard links and CTA), default tags, category, language, and caption certification. This saves time on every future upload.
Part 3: Channel Organisation and First Content
- Create a channel trailer (60-90 seconds). This video auto-plays for non-subscribers who visit your channel page. Introduce yourself, explain what your channel offers, show your best content highlights, and end with a clear subscribe CTA. Keep it energetic and concise.
- Create 5-8 playlists organised around your core service areas and keyword themes. Examples: "Wix SEO Tutorials", "SEO for Beginners", "Client Case Studies", "Google Business Profile Tips". Playlists are indexed by Google and rank for long-tail keywords.
- Set up channel sections to organise your channel page. Add sections for: Featured Video, Popular Uploads, each playlist, and Recent Uploads. This creates a structured, professional channel page.
- Upload your first 3-5 videos before promoting your channel. An empty channel looks unprofessional. Front-load your best content to make a strong first impression.
- Enable the Community tab (available after 500 subscribers). Use it for polls, updates, and linking to your Wix content.

Complete How-To: The YouTube-to-Wix Traffic Funnel
The most powerful use of YouTube for Wix SEO is creating a bidirectional traffic funnel where YouTube sends viewers to your Wix site, and your Wix site sends visitors to your YouTube videos. Here is the exact process.
Building the YouTube-to-Wix funnel
- For each service page or blog post on your Wix site, create a corresponding YouTube video that covers the same topic. The video should provide genuine value but reference the Wix page for the complete guide.
- In the video itself, verbally mention your Wix site: "I have a complete written guide with all the steps and screenshots on my website. The link is in the description below."
- Place your Wix page URL as the FIRST link in the video description. Users are most likely to click the first link.
- Add an End Screen to the video. YouTube allows end screens in the last 20 seconds. Add: a subscribe button, a link to another relevant video, and an external website link pointing to your Wix page.
- Add a Card (i-button overlay) at 2-3 strategic points in the video that links to your Wix page. Cards appear as small notifications viewers can click.
- Pin a comment on the video: "Get the complete step-by-step written guide on my website: [Your Wix URL]. It includes screenshots, templates, and tools I did not have time to cover in the video."
- On your Wix site, embed the YouTube video on the corresponding page. Use the Wix Video element or paste the YouTube embed code. This creates a bidirectional link.
- The embedded video increases time-on-page for your Wix site (positive engagement signal for Google), while the YouTube video gets additional views from your Wix traffic (positive signal for YouTube).
- Add YouTube schema markup (VideoObject) to the Wix page where the video is embedded. This helps Google display the video in rich results for the page.
- Repeat this process for every major topic you cover. Over time, you build a content ecosystem where YouTube and your Wix site reinforce each other's authority.
