X (formerly Twitter) remains one of the most important platforms for real-time engagement, industry authority and SEO. X posts are indexed by Google within minutes of publishing, tweets appear directly in search results, and X profiles are frequently cited as authoritative sources in Google's Knowledge Graph. With 611 million monthly active users and the fastest content indexing of any social platform, X is essential for building your search footprint. This lesson covers the complete setup, SEO optimisation and content strategy for your X profile.

Complete How-To: Setting Up and Optimising Your X Business Profile
Part 1: Account Creation and Setup
- Navigate to x.com and click "Create Account". Sign up using your business email address (the same one used for all other social platforms).
- Choose your display name: use your exact business name as it appears on your Wix site, GBP and other social profiles. This can be changed later but should be set correctly from the start.
- Choose your handle (@username). This is permanent and critical for brand consistency. Use @yourbusinessname with no underscores, numbers or abbreviations if possible. If taken, try @yourbusiness_uk or @yourbusinesshq. Your handle appears in your X profile URL (x.com/yourbusiness) and is searchable.
- Upload your profile photo (logo) at 400x400px. This displays as a circle and appears next to every post, reply and repost you make. Ensure it is recognisable at very small sizes.
- Upload your header/banner image at 1500x500px. This is the large background image on your profile. Use a professional branded image that communicates what you do. Include your website URL as text on the banner for passive brand exposure.
- Set your location. Add your city and country. This helps X recommend your profile to local users and provides a geographic signal for Google.
Part 2: Bio and SEO Optimisation
- Write your bio (160 characters maximum). Your X bio appears directly in Google search results when people search for your brand name. Include: what you do, who you serve, your primary keyword, and your location. Use vertical bars or bullet points to separate elements. Example: "Wix SEO Expert | Ranking small businesses on Google since 2012 | 750+ projects | Durham, UK".
- Add your Wix website URL to the Website field. Use a UTM-tagged URL: https://www.yourdomain.com?utm_source=x&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=bio. X displays this as a clickable link on your profile.
- Add your birthday or founding date. For businesses, use your business founding date. This adds a "Joined [month year]" badge to your profile that signals longevity and trustworthiness.
- Pin your best tweet. Tap the three-dot menu on your most important post and select "Pin to your profile". This should be either: your most valuable content that links to your Wix site, a customer testimonial, or a post that clearly explains your services. Pinned posts get 10x more views than regular posts.
- Consider X Premium (paid subscription). X Premium provides: verification checkmark (trust signal), longer posts (up to 25,000 characters), edit button, priority in search results and replies, ability to post longer videos, and revenue sharing eligibility. For businesses, the verification checkmark alone significantly increases credibility.

Twitter Cards and Your Wix Site
When someone shares a link from your Wix site on X, Twitter Card meta tags control the preview that appears. These previews directly impact click-through rates. A post with a rich card preview (large image, clear title, compelling description) gets 40% more clicks than a plain link.
Complete How-To: Configuring and Testing Twitter Cards for Wix
Follow these steps for every important page on your Wix site
- Understand the two card types: (1) Summary Card shows a small square thumbnail with title and description, (2) Summary Card with Large Image shows a large rectangular image above the title and description. For most pages, Large Image is preferred as it gets significantly more clicks.
- Open your Wix Editor and navigate to the page you want to optimise.
- Go to Page Settings > SEO (Google) > Social Share section.
- Set the og:title (which Wix also uses for twitter:title) to a compelling, keyword-rich title under 60 characters.
- Set the og:description to a clear, action-oriented description under 155 characters that entices clicking.
- Set the og:image to a custom image at exactly 1200x630px (this is used for both Facebook and X Large Image cards). Ensure the image is high-quality, relevant, and includes readable text if applicable.
- Wix automatically generates the twitter:card meta tag. It defaults to "summary_large_image" when you set an OG image, which is the correct setting for maximum visibility.
- Save and publish your page.
- Test the card using the Twitter Card Validator (cards-dev.twitter.com/validator). Paste your page URL and verify the correct title, description and image appear.
- If the card shows incorrect or cached data, you may need to wait 24-48 hours for X to refresh its cache. Republishing the page on Wix can sometimes trigger a refresh.
- Create a template process: every time you publish a new blog post or service page on your Wix site, immediately test the Twitter Card and share the link on X with an optimised caption.
