Not every new platform deserves your time. Use this data-driven framework to decide whether to invest in any new social platform.

Criterion 1: Audience Fit (Weight: 30%): Score 1-10 based on: Does your target demographic use this platform? Check published user demographics. If 50%+ of your ideal customer profile is represented, score 8-10. If under 20%, score 1-3. Data sources: platform press releases, Statista, Pew Research.
Criterion 2: Google Indexing (Weight: 25%): Score 1-10 based on: Does Google index content from this platform? If profiles and posts appear in Google search results, score 8-10. If only profiles appear, score 5-7. If nothing is indexed, score 1-3. Test: Search site:platformdomain.com "your keyword" on Google.
Criterion 3: Link Opportunities (Weight: 20%): Score 1-10 based on: Can you add your Wix URL to your profile? Can you include links in posts? Are links clickable? If full link support exists, score 8-10. If only bio links, score 5-7. If no links at all, score 1-3.
Criterion 4: Effort vs Reward (Weight: 15%): Score 1-10 based on: How many hours per week does the platform require for meaningful presence? Divide expected monthly referral traffic by monthly hours invested. Above 100 visitors per hour invested: score 8-10. Below 10: score 1-3.
Criterion 5: Competitive Landscape (Weight: 10%): Score 1-10 based on: Are competitors already established? If your competitors have strong presences, you must catch up (score 5-7 for necessity). If no competitors are present, there is first-mover advantage (score 8-10). If the platform is saturated with competitors, score lower (3-5).

Calculate weighted score: (Audience x 0.30) + (Indexing x 0.25) + (Links x 0.20) + (Effort x 0.15) + (Competition x 0.10). Any platform scoring 7+ is worth investing in. Score 5-7: monitor and experiment. Below 5: skip or simply secure your username.

Future-Proofing Strategy: Register your business username on every new platform as soon as it launches, even if you do not plan to use it immediately. This secures your brand name, prevents squatters, and gives you the option to activate the account when the platform reaches critical mass. Creating an account with your logo, bio, and website link takes 5 minutes and costs nothing.
