Adding a product catalogue to your Google Business Profile creates additional touchpoints in local search results, Google Shopping and Maps. For local businesses with physical products or packaged services, GBP product listings are an underused local SEO lever that most competitors have never configured.
What the GBP Products Section Does for Local SEO
The Products section in Google Business Profile displays your products directly in your GBP listing in Maps and Google Search. When users view your business panel, they can browse products, click through to your Wix product pages, and make enquiries. Products also appear in Google's Shopping tab for local searches, creating an additional discovery channel entirely separate from organic search.
Setting Up Your GBP Product Catalogue
Adding products to Google Business Profile
- Log into your GBP dashboard and select your business location
- Navigate to Products in the left sidebar (availability varies by business category)
- Click Add Product and enter the product name, category and description
- Upload a high-quality product image (minimum 250x250px)
- Set a price or price range, or select "Contact us for price"
- Add the link to your Wix product page in the "Link" field
- Click Save and repeat for each key product or service package
Writing SEO-Optimised GBP Product Descriptions
- Include the primary search query in the first sentence of the description
- Add location context naturally ("Available in [city]" or "Serving [area]")
- Mention key specifications, materials or differentiating features
- Include social proof phrases based on real customer feedback
- Stay within the 1,000-character description limit
- Avoid keyword stuffing — GBP products can be removed if flagged as spam
Tracking GBP Product Performance
In GBP Insights, review the Products section for impressions and clicks data. In GA4, filter sessions by source/medium and look for google_my_business referral traffic to your product pages. Compare months before and after product catalogue setup to quantify the traffic impact. Most businesses see GBP referral traffic increase 15-30% after adding a complete product catalogue.
How to Build a Complete Product Catalogue in Google Business Profile
How to add and optimise products in your Google Business Profile to boost local SEO
- Log in to your Google Business Profile account at business.google.com and select your business location.
- Click Products in the left navigation panel. If Products does not appear, your business category may not support this feature — check by switching to a more specific primary category.
- Click Add Product to open the product creation form.
- Enter the product name using your primary keyword phrase naturally — for example "Handmade Soy Candles" rather than just "Candles".
- Select or create a product category to help Google organise your catalogue — use the most specific category relevant to the product.
- Write a product description of 100-300 characters that includes the main keyword, a key benefit, and a location reference where natural (for example, "Available at our [City] store").
- Upload a high-quality product image of at least 250x250 pixels. Images with a clean white or neutral background perform best in GBP product listings.
- Set a price or price range if applicable, or enable the "Contact us for price" option for custom or quote-based products.
- Add the direct URL to the corresponding Wix product or service page in the "Link" field — link to the specific page, not the homepage.
- Click Save, repeat for each product or service package, and then review the full catalogue in the GBP preview to ensure all entries look complete and professional.
