Wix is one of the few website builders that gives you native access to bot traffic data without requiring expensive third-party log file analysis tools. The Bot Traffic Over Time and Bot Traffic by Page dashboards in your Wix SEO Reports show exactly which search engine and AI bots are crawling your site, how often, and which pages they prioritise. This lesson teaches you how to read these dashboards, extract actionable insights, and use the data to improve your crawl efficiency.
Accessing Wix Bot Traffic Dashboards
Finding your bot traffic data
- Log into your Wix dashboard and navigate to Analytics & Reports
- Click on SEO Reports in the left menu
- You will see two bot traffic dashboards: Bot Traffic Over Time and Bot Traffic by Page
- Bot Traffic Over Time shows crawl frequency trends across days, weeks and months
- Bot Traffic by Page shows which specific URLs receive the most crawler attention
Understanding Bot Traffic Over Time
This dashboard shows how many times search engine and AI bots have crawled your Wix site over a selected time period. You can filter by bot type to see Googlebot, Bingbot, and various AI crawlers separately. A healthy crawl pattern shows consistent or increasing crawl frequency. Sudden drops in crawl frequency can indicate technical issues that are preventing bots from accessing your site. Sudden spikes might indicate that Google has discovered a large number of new pages (good) or that you have a crawl loop or redirect chain (bad).
Key Patterns to Watch For
- Steady increase in crawl rate after publishing new content means Google is responding well to your content updates
- Sudden crawl drop may indicate a robots.txt misconfiguration, server errors, or that Google is deprioritising your site
- High crawl rate on specific page types (e.g., tag pages, filter pages) can waste crawl budget on low-value pages
- AI bot traffic increasing over time means AI systems are discovering and indexing your content for AI answers
- No AI bot traffic at all may indicate your robots.txt is blocking them or your content lacks structured data
Bot Traffic by Page Analysis
This dashboard reveals which pages on your Wix site bots crawl most frequently. Compare this against your most important pages. If Googlebot spends most of its crawl budget on your blog tag pages or pagination pages while barely touching your main service pages, you have a crawl priority problem. The solution is to ensure your most valuable pages are prominently linked from your homepage and navigation, and to consider noindexing low-value pages that are consuming crawl budget.
AI Bot Traffic Monitoring
The Wix dashboard now separates traditional search engine bots from AI crawlers. You can see how often GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and other AI crawlers visit your site. This data is invaluable for understanding whether your content is being included in AI training datasets and real-time AI answers. If you see high AI bot traffic on specific pages, those pages are likely being cited in AI-generated responses.
Using Bot Traffic Data to Optimise Crawl Budget
Improving crawl efficiency based on bot data
- Identify pages receiving high bot traffic but low user value (tag pages, empty categories, old pagination)
- Add noindex tags or robots.txt disallow rules for low-value pages consuming crawl budget
- Ensure your most important commercial pages appear in the top crawled pages list
- If important pages are not being crawled frequently, improve internal linking to them from your homepage and navigation
- After making changes, monitor the dashboards for 2-4 weeks to see if crawl patterns improve
- Set a monthly calendar reminder to review bot traffic trends and adjust strategy accordingly
