NLWeb and structured content for conversational AI discovery on Wix

NLWeb (Natural Language Web) is an emerging protocol that allows AI agents to interact with your website content conversationally. Unlike traditional search where users type keywords and get links, NLWeb enables AI systems to query your site directly and receive structured answers. For Wix site owners, preparing for NLWeb means ensuring your content is structured in ways that AI agents can understand, query and cite. This lesson covers what NLWeb is, how it relates to existing SEO practices, and how to prepare your Wix site.
What NLWeb Does Differently
Traditional web search works in three steps: crawl, index, retrieve. NLWeb adds a fourth dimension: converse. Instead of a search engine crawling your pages and building an index, an AI agent sends natural language queries directly to your website and expects structured, machine-readable responses. Think of it as your website being able to answer questions rather than just being a collection of pages to be indexed.
How NLWeb Relates to Existing SEO
- NLWeb builds on structured data (schema.org) that you should already have on your Wix site
- Pages with clear FAQ schema are already partially NLWeb-ready because they present structured Q&A pairs
- Product pages with complete Product schema provide the data AI agents need to make recommendations
- Service pages with ProfessionalService schema give AI agents the information to recommend your business
- Blog posts with Article schema and clear heading structure are easier for AI agents to parse and cite
Preparing Your Wix Site for AI Agent Discovery
Making your content AI-agent ready
- Ensure every page has comprehensive, accurate structured data (JSON-LD) matching the content type
- Implement FAQ schema on pages where you answer common questions about your services
- Use clear, hierarchical heading structure (H1, H2, H3) that allows AI agents to navigate your content
- Write content that directly answers questions in the first paragraph (the BLUF principle: Bottom Line Up Front)
- Include factual, verifiable claims with sources rather than vague marketing language
- Add the llms.txt file to your Wix site describing your site structure and key content
- Keep your structured data accurate and up to date, especially prices, availability and business hours
- Create a comprehensive sitemap that includes all indexable content types
The Role of llms.txt and ai.txt
While NLWeb is the protocol for conversational interaction, llms.txt and ai.txt files serve as directories that help AI systems understand your site's structure and most important content. Think of llms.txt as a sitemap specifically for AI models: it tells them what your site is about, what your most important pages are, and how your content is organised. Wix supports adding these files through the File Manager or custom code.
Structured Data as the Foundation
The single most important thing you can do to prepare for NLWeb and AI agent discovery is to have comprehensive, accurate structured data on every page. AI agents rely heavily on schema.org markup to understand your content. A product page with complete Product schema (name, description, price, availability, brand, reviews, images) is infinitely more useful to an AI agent than a product page with just text and images.
Content Structure for AI Consumption
- Lead with the answer: put the most important information in the first paragraph of every page
- Use descriptive headings that match the questions your audience asks
- Include specific data points: numbers, dates, prices, and measurable claims
- Avoid ambiguous language: AI agents need clear, unambiguous statements to quote accurately
- Structure comparison content in tables rather than prose, tables are easier for AI to parse
- Include author credentials and publication dates, these are trust signals for AI citation
How to Add FAQ Schema to a Wix Service Page to Prepare for AI Agent Queries
How to add a properly structured FAQ section and FAQPage schema to a Wix service page so AI agents can extract and cite your answers directly
- Log in to your Wix dashboard and click Edit Site to open the Wix Editor. Navigate to the service page you want to enhance.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page content area and click the plus icon to add a new content block. Choose a text block and set the first line to H2 with the text "Frequently Asked Questions".
- Write a list of eight to ten genuine questions your customers ask about this service. Base these on real enquiries you have received, your forum content, or the People Also Ask results in Google for your service keyword.
- Under each question, add a H3 heading with the question text. Below each H3, add a paragraph block with a clear, specific answer of two to four sentences. Lead with the direct answer before any explanation.
- After adding all FAQ content to the page, open page settings by clicking the page name in the top bar, select the SEO tab, and scroll to Structured Data Markup.
- Click Add New Markup and create a FAQPage schema block. Set the @type to FAQPage.
- Add a mainEntity property as an array. For each FAQ item, add a Question object with a name property (the question text exactly as written on the page) and an acceptedAnswer property containing an Answer object with a text property (the answer text exactly as written).
- Match every question and answer in the schema exactly to what appears visibly on the page. Discrepancies between visible content and schema will cause Google to ignore the markup.
- Save the markup and validate the page using Google's Rich Results Test to confirm the FAQPage schema is detected without errors.
- Publish the page and submit the URL to Google Search Console via URL Inspection, then click Request Indexing. After two weeks, check Search Console Enhancements to confirm Google has detected the FAQ rich result.
