Module 25: Zero-Click SEO & Answer Engine Strategy for Wix | Lesson 305 of 687 | 55 min read

Featured snippets are the most prominent zero-click feature on Google, appearing above position one in a highlighted box. While they reduce clicks for many queries, they also provide massive brand visibility and establish authority. For Wix site owners, winning a featured snippet can mean your answer is the one Google selects from millions of possibilities. This lesson provides the complete methodology for winning paragraph, list, table, and video snippets.

The Four Featured Snippet Formats
Paragraph Snippets
Paragraph snippets answer "what is" and "why" questions with a 40-60 word text block. Google extracts this from a paragraph immediately following a heading that matches the search query. The paragraph must be a clear, standalone definition or explanation that makes sense without additional context.
List Snippets
List snippets answer "how to" and "best of" queries with numbered or bulleted lists. Google extracts ordered lists (steps) or unordered lists (items) from your content. The heading should match the query, followed immediately by a list with 3-8 clearly worded items. Lists longer than 8 items often get truncated with a "More items" link to your page.
Table Snippets
Table snippets appear for comparison and data queries. Google extracts HTML tables from your content, typically showing 3-4 rows and 2-4 columns. On Wix, you can create tables using the table element or by adding custom HTML through the embed code widget.
Video Snippets
Video snippets display a YouTube video with a specific timestamp. Google selects the video based on its relevance to the query and may even auto-select the timestamp where the answer begins. Embedding YouTube videos on your Wix page and including timestamps in the video description increases your chances.
The Snippet Optimisation Formula
Optimise your Wix content for featured snippets
- Identify keywords where a featured snippet currently appears by searching in incognito
- Determine which snippet format Google uses for that query: paragraph, list, table, or video
- Check if you currently rank in the top 10 for that keyword, as snippets almost always come from page one results
- Structure your content with an H2 or H3 heading that exactly matches the search query
- Immediately after the heading, provide the answer in the correct format: 40-60 word paragraph, numbered list, or HTML table
- Ensure the answer is self-contained and makes sense as a standalone extract
- Include additional depth and detail below the snippet-targeted section to demonstrate comprehensive coverage
- Publish and monitor GSC for snippet capture, which typically happens within 2-6 weeks
Testing and Iterating Snippet Attempts
Not every attempt will win the snippet on the first try. Use GSC to track which pages show high impressions but low CTR for snippet-targeted keywords, which may indicate your page is ranking but not capturing the snippet. Iterate by adjusting the answer format, shortening or lengthening the paragraph, or restructuring the heading to more closely match the query.
Featured Snippet Content Templates for Wix
Each snippet type requires a specific content template. Use these templates on your Wix pages to maximise snippet capture probability.
<!-- Paragraph Snippet Template -->
<h2>What Is [Topic]?</h2>
<p>[Topic] is [clear 40-60 word definition that
answers the query completely as a standalone
paragraph without requiring additional context].</p>
<!-- List Snippet Template -->
<h2>How to [Do Something] on Wix</h2>
<ol>
<li>Step one description</li>
<li>Step two description</li>
<li>Step three description</li>
<!-- 5-8 items total -->
</ol>
<!-- Table Snippet Template -->
<h2>[Topic A] vs [Topic B]</h2>
<table>
<tr><th>Feature</th><th>[A]</th><th>[B]</th></tr>
<tr><td>Feature 1</td><td>Value</td><td>Value</td></tr>
</table>
Common Snippet Loss Scenarios and Recovery
- Competitor publishes a better-formatted answer: Re-optimise your answer paragraph to be clearer and more concise. Add specific data or numbers.
- Google changes the snippet format: If Google switches from a paragraph to a list snippet, restructure your content to match the new format.
- Your page drops out of the top 10: Snippets almost always come from page one. Focus on regaining your ranking first.
- Content becomes outdated: Snippet sources with recent dates are preferred. Update your content and change the publication date.
- Multiple pages on your site compete: If two of your pages target the same snippet, consolidate them or differentiate their target queries.
Complete How-To Guide: Winning Featured Snippets for Your Wix Site
Complete step-by-step featured snippet capture strategy
- Step 1: Export your top 50 keywords from GSC. Search each one in Google incognito and note which ones currently show a featured snippet.
- Step 2: Filter to keywords where you rank in the top 10. You cannot win a snippet without a page one ranking.
- Step 3: For each snippet opportunity, note the current snippet format (paragraph, list, table, or video) and the current source.
- Step 4: Analyse the current snippet source. Identify why Google chose that content: is it format, word count, specificity, or authority?
- Step 5: On your Wix page targeting that keyword, add an H2 heading that exactly matches the search query phrasing.
- Step 6: Immediately below the heading, write your snippet answer in the correct format: 40-60 words for paragraph, 5-8 items for list, or a clean HTML table for comparison.
- Step 7: Ensure your answer is factually accurate, more specific than the current snippet source, and includes a data point or specific detail that adds value.
- Step 8: Below the snippet-targeted answer, add 200-500 words of additional depth and context to demonstrate comprehensive coverage.
- Step 9: Publish the updated page and submit the URL to GSC using URL Inspection. Request indexing.
- Step 10: Check GSC Performance data for the target keyword daily for 2 weeks. If impressions increase dramatically but CTR drops, you may have captured the snippet (high impressions, low CTR is a snippet indicator).
- Step 11: Search the keyword in incognito after 2-4 weeks to verify snippet capture. If your content appears in the snippet, document the win.
- Step 12: If no snippet capture after 4 weeks, iterate: adjust the answer format, make it more concise, add a data point, or try a different heading phrasing.
