Module 17: Wix eCommerce SEO Mastery | Lesson 206 of 687 | 40 min read

By Michael Andrews, Wix SEO Expert UK

Getting your Wix Stores products into Google Merchant Center is one thing. Keeping them approved, compliant and performing well is another challenge entirely. This lesson covers the most common product feed errors Wix store owners encounter, how to diagnose them in Google Merchant Center's Diagnostics tab, and the specific fixes for each issue. If your products are being disapproved, have missing attributes, or are not appearing in Google Shopping free listings, this lesson will help you fix it.

How the Wix to Google Merchant Center Feed Works

When you connect your Wix Store to Google Merchant Center, Wix generates a product data feed that Google fetches on a schedule you define. This feed contains all your product information: titles, descriptions, prices, images, availability, GTINs and more. Google then validates every product against its product data specification. Products that fail validation are disapproved and will not appear in Google Shopping results, free listings, or Performance Max campaigns.

Finding and understanding product errors

Most Common Wix Product Feed Errors and Fixes

Missing or Invalid GTIN (Global Trade Item Number)

Google requires GTINs (UPCa, EAN, or ISBN) for branded products. If your Wix products are branded items, add the GTIN in the Product Management section of each product. For handmade, custom, or unbranded products, set the identifier_exists attribute to "no" in your product settings. Wix handles this through the "Brand" and "Product identifiers" fields in the product editor.

Price and Availability Mismatch

Google crawls your Wix product pages and compares the price shown to the price in your feed. If they do not match, the product is disapproved. This commonly happens when Wix sale prices end but the feed has not been refreshed yet. Enable automatic item updates in your Merchant Center settings to reduce mismatches, and set your feed to fetch at least daily.

Products Flagged as "Used" When They Are "New"

Google's automated classification may incorrectly flag products as "used" based on keywords in your descriptions like "vintage", "retro", "classic" or "refurbished". Fix this in Google Merchant Center under Products then Automations, where you can create a rule to force the condition attribute to "new" for all affected products. Wix does not give you direct control over this attribute in the feed.

Missing Shipping and Return Policy

Google requires shipping costs and return policies to be configured. If your products show "missing shipping information", link your Google Merchant Center account to your Google Search Console property. Then configure shipping in Merchant Center under Shipping and returns. Add your return policy with clear time frames and conditions. Also ensure your Wix site has a visible shipping policy and returns policy page.

Image Quality Issues

Optimising Product Titles for Google Shopping

Your Wix product titles feed directly into Google Shopping. Optimise them by including the brand name, product type, key attributes (colour, size, material) and model number where applicable. Google Shopping titles can be up to 150 characters, so use the full space. Format: [Brand] + [Product Type] + [Key Attribute 1] + [Key Attribute 2]. For example: "Nike Air Max 90 Running Shoes - Black/White - Men's Size 10".

Free Listings Optimisation

Google Shopping free listings appear alongside paid Shopping ads and in the Shopping tab. To maximise your free listing visibility, ensure every product has a complete set of attributes (title, description, image, price, GTIN, brand, colour, size), that your product descriptions are detailed and keyword-rich, and that your Wix store has strong organic SEO signals. Products from sites with higher domain authority tend to perform better in free listings.

Daily Check: Set a calendar reminder to check your Google Merchant Center Diagnostics tab at least weekly. Product disapprovals can happen at any time due to feed errors, policy changes, or price mismatches. Catching and fixing issues quickly minimises the time your products are missing from Google Shopping.
