Wix Music app SEO: optimising tracks, albums and artist pages
Module 46: Essential Wix Apps for SEO | Lesson 529 of 687 | 22 min read
By Michael Andrews, Wix SEO Expert UK
The Wix Music app allows musicians and bands to sell music, stream tracks, and build an artist website, all within Wix. Each track, album, and artist page generates its own URL, creating indexable content that can rank in search results. However, music pages face the same challenge as portfolios: the primary content is audio, which search engines cannot directly index. This lesson covers how to build the text and structured data layer that makes your Wix Music content discoverable in search and AI platforms.
Music SEO Fundamentals
When someone searches for your band name, a specific song, or music in your genre, you want your Wix site to appear alongside or above streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. This is achievable because your Wix site gives you full control over SEO elements that streaming platforms do not. You can write detailed descriptions, add structured data, create blog content about your music, and build a complete web presence that search engines and AI systems can reference.
Optimising Track and Album Pages
SEO setup for each release
- Write a unique description for every album and significant track. Include the genre, mood, inspiration, and any notable collaborators or production details.
- Set keyword-rich meta titles for album pages: "Album Name | Artist Name | Genre" format works well.
- Write meta descriptions that include your artist name, album name, genre, and release year.
- Add lyrics to track pages where possible. Lyrics are highly searched content and provide rich text for indexing.
- Include album artwork with descriptive alt text that mentions the artist name and album name.
- Add MusicAlbum and MusicRecording schema markup to provide structured data about your releases.
- Link album and track pages to your biography, tour dates, and social media profiles.
Artist Page and Biography SEO
- Write a comprehensive biography of 300+ words covering your musical history, influences, achievements, and current projects
- Include specific details: genre, instruments, years active, notable venues or festivals, awards, and media features
- Add Person or MusicGroup schema markup with complete properties: genre, member names, albums, and sameAs links to streaming profiles
- Link to all your streaming platform profiles (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, SoundCloud) using sameAs properties
- Include high-quality press photos with descriptive alt text
- Add a discography section that links to each album page
Building Search Visibility Beyond Your Music Pages
The most successful musician websites supplement their music pages with blog content. Write about your creative process, gear reviews, behind-the-scenes stories, and music industry topics relevant to your genre. This content targets informational search queries and drives traffic from people who may become fans after discovering your site through educational content.
How to Add MusicGroup Schema and Connect Streaming Profiles on Your Wix Music Site
How to implement structured data on your Wix Music artist page to strengthen your entity profile across Google and AI platforms
- Log in to your Wix dashboard and click Edit Site to open the Wix Editor. Navigate to your main artist or band page.
- Click anywhere on the canvas to deselect all elements, then open page settings from the top toolbar and select the SEO tab.
- Scroll to the Advanced SEO section and open the Structured Data Markup panel. Click Add New Markup.
- Paste a MusicGroup schema block (or MusicBand for bands) with the @context set to https://schema.org and the @type set to MusicGroup.
- Fill in the name property with your exact artist or band name as it appears on Spotify and Apple Music. Fill in the genre property with your primary genre, and add a description of 100 to 200 words covering your musical background and style.
- Add the sameAs property as an array. Include your Spotify artist URL, Apple Music profile URL, YouTube channel URL, SoundCloud profile URL, Facebook page URL, and Instagram profile URL.
- Add the member property if you are a band. List each member as a Person object with their name and instrument.
- Add the album property as an array listing each album with its name, type (LP, Single, EP), and release year.
- Save the markup and validate it using Google's Rich Results Test at search.google.com/test/rich-results. Correct any errors before publishing.
- Publish the updated page and search your artist or band name in Google after two weeks to see if a Music knowledge panel or entity card begins appearing in the search results.
