Module 41: Parasite SEO & Third-Party Platform Authority | Lesson 472 of 688 | 50 min read
By Michael Andrews, Wix SEO Expert UK
Reddit has become one of the most powerful platforms in Google search results. Google now surfaces Reddit threads for thousands of queries. This lesson teaches you how to build authority on Reddit that drives traffic to your Wix site while contributing genuine value to communities.
Why Reddit Ranks So Well in Google
Google signed a data licensing deal with Reddit and has significantly increased the visibility of Reddit content in search results. Reddit threads now appear for informational queries, product reviews, comparison queries and "best of" lists. This means your contributions on Reddit can appear directly in Google search results.

Building Reddit Authority the Right Way
Establishing a genuine Reddit presence
- Identify 3-5 subreddits where your target audience asks questions about your expertise
- Spend 2 weeks reading and understanding each subreddit's culture and rules
- Start by answering questions with detailed, helpful responses (no links initially)
- Build karma and reputation through consistent, valuable contributions
- After establishing trust, occasionally include links to your Wix site when directly relevant
- Create original resource posts that compile useful information for the community
- Engage with responses to your posts to build conversation threads (which rank better)
- Never delete posts or comments, they accumulate SEO value over time
Reddit Content That Ranks in Google
- Detailed comparison posts: "I tested X vs Y, here are my results"
- Resource compilations: "Complete list of tools for [topic]"
- Personal experience posts: "After 5 years of doing X, here is what I learned"
- AMA-style expertise sharing: answering multiple questions in a single thread
- Tutorial posts: step-by-step guides with screenshots
How to Build a Winning Reddit Content Strategy for SEO
Use this step-by-step process to build a legitimate, high-impact Reddit presence that drives both referral traffic and organic visibility for your Wix site.
Establishing and growing an SEO-effective Reddit presence
- Search Google for "site:reddit.com [your main keyword]" and examine which subreddits appear in the results. Open the top 5 Reddit threads and note which subreddits they are from. These communities are already ranking for your keywords and are your primary targets.
- Visit each identified subreddit and read the community rules (usually pinned in the sidebar). Note any explicit rules about self-promotion, link sharing, minimum karma requirements and post frequency limits. Following these rules is non-negotiable.
- Create or log into your Reddit account. If your account is new, do not post anything promotional for at least 14 days. Instead, comment genuinely and helpfully on existing threads in your target subreddits to build account history and karma.
- Use the Reddit search bar within your target subreddits to find the most upvoted posts of all time in your niche. These are the topics the community values most. Sort by "top" and "all time" to find the patterns.
- Identify 3 questions in your target subreddits that appear frequently but have no truly comprehensive answer. These are your first posting opportunities. Search the subreddit for your keyword and look for threads with high comment counts but low-quality top answers.
- Write your first Reddit post as a resource thread rather than a promotional post. Format it as "I spent 3 years doing X, here is everything I learned" or "Complete guide to [topic] for [subreddit community]". Include concrete, actionable information and no links in the first post.
- Format your Reddit posts for readability: use line breaks after every 2-3 sentences, use bold text (**text**) for key points, use numbered lists for steps, and use headers (## Header) for longer posts. Well-formatted posts get more upvotes and more Google indexing visibility.
- After your resource post gains traction (10+ upvotes), you can add a brief comment below your post mentioning that you have a more detailed version on your site with a direct link to the relevant Wix page. This keeps the link off the main post and feels less promotional.
- Respond to every comment on your Reddit posts within the first 24 hours. Reddit threads with active discussion and high comment counts rank higher in Google. Each response you write extends the thread and increases its search visibility.
- After 60 days of consistent posting, review your Google Search Console data and search Google for "site:reddit.com [your username]" to see how many of your Reddit contributions are indexed. Monitor which posts rank for your keywords and produce more content in those formats.
- Set up a Google Alert for "site:reddit.com [your keyword]" to receive notifications whenever new Reddit threads appear on your target topics. Reply to new threads quickly, as early valuable comments on growing threads gain the most karma and visibility.
