How to Stop Bot Traffic on Wix (Including the China and Singapore Spike)

This guide explains how to tell if it is affecting your site, whether it does any harm, and what you can and cannot do about it on Wix. The short answer: for most Wix sites, the fix is cleaning up your reports, not blocking anything.
If your Google Analytics suddenly shows hundreds of visitors from China and Singapore, you are not alone, and your Wix site is almost certainly not under attack. Since autumn 2025, sites on every platform have been seeing the same fake visits. This guide explains how to tell if it is affecting your site, whether it does any harm, and what you can and cannot do about it on Wix. The short answer: for most Wix sites, the fix is cleaning up your reports, not blocking anything.
What is the China and Singapore bot traffic?
It is automated, non-human traffic that started appearing in Google Analytics 4 around mid-September 2025 and became widespread from October 2025. A Google Analytics Product Expert on Google's help forum has described it as inauthentic and non-human. Nobody has confirmed exactly who is behind it, and it is not aimed at Wix sites in particular.
How to tell if it is affecting your Wix site
Look at your Google Analytics 4 reports for visits from China (often the city of Lanzhou) and Singapore that share these signs:
- Almost all of them are new users.
- Average engagement time is close to zero seconds, usually under 10 seconds.
- Only one page is viewed per visit, with no scrolling or clicks.
- They come from desktop computers, very often on Windows 7.
- The source is often shown as direct.
- There are no matching clicks from those countries in Google Search Console.
If most of your sudden traffic from China and Singapore looks like this, it is bot traffic, not real customers.
Ghost visits and real bots: why the difference matters
Some of these visits are ghost visits. They never load your website at all. Fake data is sent straight to Google Analytics, so it looks like someone visited when nobody did. Other visits are real bots that do load your pages.
This matters because blocking visitors at your website cannot stop ghost visits. They never reach your website in the first place, so the only place to deal with them is inside Google Analytics.
A simple check for Wix owners: compare Google Analytics with Wix Analytics for the same dates. If Google Analytics shows a big spike from China and Singapore but Wix Analytics does not, those visits most likely never reached your site.
Does bot traffic hurt your Google rankings?
No. Google Search does not use your Google Analytics data to rank your site, and there is no evidence that this traffic affects rankings. The real problem is that it makes your reports misleading, so you cannot trust your visitor numbers until you filter it out.
Check Wix Analytics first
Wix Analytics and Google Analytics both filter out traffic from known bots by default, but they use different methods, so their numbers often differ. See Wix's guide to why Wix Analytics and other tracking tools show different numbers.
Wix also has Bot Traffic over Time and Bot Traffic by Page reports in its SEO reports. These show search engine crawlers such as Googlebot, not fake visitors, so they will not show the China and Singapore traffic. They are still useful for checking that Google can crawl your site. How to clean up Google Analytics 4
Start with the safe option and only move to the permanent one once you are sure.
- Use a segment (safe, and nothing is deleted). In GA4, open Explore and create a session segment that excludes sessions from China and Singapore lasting under 10 seconds. Apply it to your explorations. Your original data stays untouched, and you can remove the segment at any time.
- Hide the countries in individual reports. You can add a filter to a report to leave out China and Singapore. It only changes that one report, so you have to repeat it for each one.
- Use a data filter (permanent, so take care). GA4's data filters, under Admin, can stop matching traffic from being recorded. Data that has been filtered out cannot be recovered, and filters only apply to new data, not the past. Set the filter to testing first and check it for a few weeks before you make it active.
If you sell to customers in China or Singapore, do not exclude those countries completely. Exclude only the visits that match the bot signs above. For more on getting GA4 right, see my lessons on setting up Google Analytics 4 correctly on Wix and the GA4 reports that matter.
Why Cloudflare and IP blocking are not the answer on Wix
Most guides to this problem tell you to block the traffic with a Cloudflare firewall rule. That does not work on a normal Wix site, because Wix does not support Cloudflare's proxy, and the firewall needs the proxy to work.
Wix also does not let you block IP addresses or countries from its own settings. Its help centre points to an IP and country blocker app in the Wix App Market instead.
Before you go down that road, remember that blocking at your website cannot stop ghost visits, which make up much of this traffic. Blocking whole countries can also turn away real customers, and blocking the wrong visitors can stop useful crawlers. For most Wix sites, it is not worth it. Clean up Google Analytics instead.
Stopping bots from spamming your Wix forms
Fake visits are mostly a reporting problem, but bots that fill in your forms are a real nuisance. Wix gives you good tools for this:
- Wix Forms spam filter. New Wix Forms come with spam filters built in. In the form builder, open Settings, then Spam filter settings, and choose a level: Only reCAPTCHA, Basic and reCAPTCHA, or Advanced and reCAPTCHA. Anything marked as spam goes to the Spam tab, where you can unmark genuine messages.
- Site members. If your site has members, turn on email confirmation for new members and add reCAPTCHA to your signup and login forms to stop fake accounts.
What about AI crawlers and other bots?
Not every bot is bad. Search engine crawlers need to reach your site for it to appear on Google, and AI crawlers decide whether your site can be used in AI answers. If you want to control which crawlers can visit, see my lesson on blocking AI bots with robots.txt on Wix.
Frequently asked questions
Why am I getting traffic from China and Singapore on my Wix site?
Since autumn 2025, sites on every platform, including Wix, have been receiving fake, automated visits from China and Singapore that show up in Google Analytics. It is not aimed at your site, and it is almost certainly not real customers.
Does bot traffic hurt my SEO?
No. Google Search does not use your Google Analytics data to rank your site, and there is no evidence that this traffic affects rankings. It only makes your reports misleading.
Can I block countries or IP addresses on Wix?
Not from Wix's own settings. Wix's help centre points to an IP and country blocker app in the Wix App Market. For this kind of bot traffic, blocking is rarely worth it, because many of the visits never reach your site.
Can I use Cloudflare to block bots on a Wix site?
Not with Cloudflare's firewall rules, because Wix does not support Cloudflare's proxy, which those rules need.
How do I remove bot traffic from Google Analytics 4?
Start with a segment in Explore that excludes sessions from China and Singapore lasting under 10 seconds. If you need it gone from all reports, use a GA4 data filter, but test it first, because filtered data cannot be recovered.
Does Wix Analytics filter out bots?
Yes. Wix Analytics filters out traffic from known bots by default. It uses a different method from Google Analytics, so the two often show different numbers.
