Google Image Pack results are the horizontal row of images that appear within standard search results for a huge range of queries. Getting your Wix site images into Image Pack results is one of the highest-leverage visual search optimisations you can make because it gives you additional SERP real estate without taking away from your standard organic listing. This lesson teaches you exactly how Google selects images for Image Pack, what quality and formatting requirements your images must meet, and how to implement schema markup that increases your chances of inclusion.
How Google Selects Images for Image Pack Results
Google determines whether to show an Image Pack for a query based on user intent signals. If Google detects that users searching for a particular query frequently click on images or switch to the Images tab, it will begin showing Image Pack results for that query. The images selected for the pack are chosen based on relevance, image quality, page authority, and image SEO signals.
- Image relevance: the image must clearly match the search query, determined by file name, alt text, surrounding content and page topic
- Image quality: high-resolution, well-composed images are preferred over low-quality or heavily compressed images
- Page authority: images from higher-authority domains are more likely to be included in Image Pack results
- Image freshness: recently published or updated images may receive a temporary boost for time-sensitive queries
- Image uniqueness: original images are strongly preferred over stock photos that appear on thousands of sites
- Image format: JPEG and WebP are preferred for photos, PNG for graphics and illustrations, SVG for icons and logos
- Image size: Google prefers images with a minimum dimension of 1200 pixels wide for Image Pack inclusion
Content Formatting That Triggers Image Pack Inclusion
Certain content formats are much more likely to trigger Image Pack results than others. Understanding these patterns helps you structure your Wix pages to maximise Image Pack appearances.
Content strategies that increase Image Pack inclusion
- Create how-to and tutorial content with step-by-step images. Google frequently shows Image Pack for "how to" queries
- Publish before-and-after content with clear comparison images, especially for service businesses
- Create visual guides and infographics that illustrate processes, comparisons or data
- Add multiple relevant images per page rather than just one hero image, pages with 3 or more images rank better in image search
- Use descriptive heading tags (H2, H3) directly above images to provide context signals
- Include images that answer the query visually, for example a photo of the finished result for a recipe or craft query
- For product pages, include multiple angles, lifestyle shots and detail close-ups
ImageObject Schema Markup for Wix Sites
ImageObject schema markup provides Google with structured information about your images, including the image URL, description, author, license, and more. While not required for Image Pack inclusion, schema markup gives Google additional confidence in understanding your image content and can improve your chances of appearing in rich image results.

Implementing ImageObject schema on Wix
- Identify the key images on each page that you want to optimise for Image Pack results
- Write the ImageObject schema JSON-LD for each key image, including contentUrl, name, description and dimensions
- In the Wix editor, go to the page with the target image
- Add the schema via Wix Settings > Custom Code or via the page-level SEO settings advanced section
- Test the schema using Google Rich Results Test to confirm it is valid and error-free
- Include the ImageObject within your page WebPage or Article schema as the primaryImageOfPage property
Image Quality and Technical Requirements
- Minimum 1200 pixels wide for Image Pack eligibility, 1600 pixels or wider is optimal
- Use a 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio for general content images, square for product images
- Keep file sizes under 200KB after compression for fast loading without sacrificing quality
- Use WebP format for optimal compression-to-quality ratio on Wix
- Ensure images are sharp and well-lit, Google image quality algorithms penalise blurry or poorly exposed photos
- Use original photography wherever possible, stock images are rarely selected for Image Pack
- Avoid text-heavy images for Image Pack, Google struggles to parse images that are primarily text
Tracking Your Image Pack Rankings
How to monitor your Image Pack performance
- In Google Search Console, go to Performance and filter by Search Type > Image
- Review total image search clicks and impressions to track month-over-month growth
- Check which queries drive the most image search traffic to identify your strongest visual content
- Manually search your target keywords monthly and note whether your images appear in Image Pack
- Track your Image Pack inclusion rate: number of target keywords where you appear in Image Pack / total keywords with Image Pack results
- Screenshot your Image Pack appearances for records and to track changes over time

Complete How-To Guide: Getting Your Wix Images Into Google Image Pack
Follow this optimisation process for your key pages
- Identify 10 target keywords where Google shows Image Pack results and your Wix site does not appear
- For each keyword, analyse the images currently in the Image Pack to understand what type of image Google prefers (product shot, infographic, lifestyle image, screenshot)
- Create or source original, high-quality images that match the Image Pack style for each keyword
- Name each image file descriptively with the target keyword before uploading to Wix
- Upload images at 1200 pixels wide minimum, compressed to under 200KB in WebP format
- Place each image on the most relevant page for that keyword, surrounded by topically relevant text
- Add optimised alt text, a descriptive caption, and relevant heading tags near each image
- Implement ImageObject schema markup for each key image via Wix Custom Code
- Submit the optimised pages for re-indexing in Google Search Console
- Monitor Image Pack appearances for your target keywords weekly for the next 4 to 8 weeks
- Iterate: if images are not appearing after 8 weeks, test different image styles, sizes or page placements
- Track total image search traffic in GSC monthly to measure the cumulative impact of your optimisations
