Search Engine Roundtable is where I start most mornings. Barry Schwartz posts short, fast updates on what Google is doing, ranking wobbles, and confirmed updates, usually before anyone else. If you read one news site, make it this one. Best for: knowing something changed today.
Best for learning the fundamentals
Google Search Central is the one source I tell everyone to read first. It is Google's own documentation and blog, so instead of guessing what Google wants, you are reading what Google actually says. Best for: the rules from the people who make them.
Moz built the Beginner's Guide to SEO that a whole generation learned from, and it is still free and still excellent. Their Whiteboard Friday videos are a friendly way in too. Best for: getting the foundations right from scratch.
Best for tools you can use for free
Ahrefs and Semrush are the two big paid toolkits, but both give a surprising amount away. Ahrefs has free Webmaster Tools that will audit your own site and show your backlinks, plus one of the best SEO blogs going. Best for: a free site audit and backlink data.
Semrush has a surprisingly useful free tier and Semrush Academy, a free set of courses with certificates at the end. Their blog is worth following too. Best for: structured free courses and a taste of a full toolkit.
Best for Wix, and free
