A Google Knowledge Panel is the information box that appears on the right side of search results when someone searches for your brand. It displays your business name, logo, description, address, reviews, social profiles, and more. Knowledge panels are powerful reputation assets because Google treats them as authoritative summaries of your entity across the web. A well-managed knowledge panel dominates the brand SERP, pushing any negative results below the fold. This lesson covers how to trigger, claim, and manage a knowledge panel for your Wix business using entity SEO techniques.
How Google Creates Knowledge Panels
Google generates knowledge panels from its Knowledge Graph, a database of entities (people, businesses, organisations, and concepts). Google builds entity profiles from multiple sources: your website structured data, Google Business Profile, Wikipedia and Wikidata entries, social media profiles, directory listings, and authoritative references in press and publications. The more consistent and comprehensive your entity data across these sources, the more likely Google is to create a knowledge panel for your brand and the more accurate that panel will be when it appears.
Triggering a Knowledge Panel for Your Business
Build the entity signals needed for a knowledge panel
- Step 1: Ensure your Wix website has Organization or LocalBusiness schema with: name, logo, description, url, address, telephone, sameAs (links to social profiles).
- Step 2: Claim and complete your Google Business Profile with 100% completeness: all fields filled, logo, photos, business description, categories, services.
- Step 3: Create consistent NAP (Name, Address, Phone) across all online presence: Wix site, GBP, social profiles, directory listings.
- Step 4: Create or update your Wikipedia article (if your business is notable enough to meet Wikipedia notability guidelines). If not, create a Wikidata entry.
- Step 5: Add a Wikidata entry for your business at wikidata.org. Include: business name, description, official website URL, social media URLs, founding date, and industry.
- Step 6: Link all social profiles from your Wix website using sameAs schema property.
- Step 7: Get listed in authoritative business directories: Companies House, Crunchbase, LinkedIn company page.
- Step 8: Earn mentions in authoritative publications that reference your business by its full name.
- Step 9: Wait 2-4 weeks after implementing all signals. Search your brand name to check for knowledge panel appearance.
- Step 10: If no panel appears after 4 weeks, strengthen signals: more directory listings, more social profile activity, more authoritative mentions.
Claiming and Editing Your Knowledge Panel
Once Google creates a knowledge panel for your business, you can claim ownership through Google Search. Search for your business, click "Claim this knowledge panel" at the bottom of the panel, and verify through one of Google approved methods (typically verifying a linked website or social profile). Once claimed, you can suggest edits to the panel information: update your logo, description, social profiles, and contact details. Google reviews suggested edits before publishing them, and approval is not guaranteed, particularly for description changes that include marketing language.
Knowledge Panel Enrichment Signals
A basic knowledge panel shows minimal information. An enriched panel shows detailed information that builds trust: logo, photos, reviews, social profiles, People Also Search For, and Q&A. Each enrichment element comes from a different data source. Reviews appear from your Google Business Profile. Social profiles appear when they are listed in your sameAs schema and are verified profiles. Photos appear from your GBP and from Wix website images that are referenced in structured data. Enriching every possible element maximises the panel impact on your brand reputation by filling the entire right-column knowledge panel space.
Schema Markup Strategy for Entity Building on Wix
The Organization schema on your Wix homepage is the foundational entity signal. Include every available property: name, legalName, alternateName, url, logo (as an ImageObject with URL and dimensions), description (2-3 sentences with primary keyword), address (as PostalAddress with full street-level detail), telephone, email, foundingDate, numberOfEmployees, sameAs (as an array containing LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter/X, YouTube, Instagram, Trustpilot, and any other active profiles). This comprehensive schema gives the Knowledge Graph the clearest possible picture of your business entity.
Monitoring and Maintaining Your Knowledge Panel
Knowledge panels can display incorrect information pulled from unreliable sources. Monitor your panel monthly by searching your brand name in a fresh incognito window. Check: business name spelling, description accuracy, logo currency, address correctness, and social profile links. If incorrect information appears, use the "Suggest an edit" button to submit a correction with evidence. If a serious error persists after suggesting corrections, report it through the Google Business Profile support channel or the Google Search feedback option.
