How do I connect my Wix site to Google Search Console?

Wix has a built-in connection, so you do not need to add a verification code by hand. In your site's SEO dashboard, open the SEO Setup Checklist, complete the first step, then click Connect to Google. You will need a Premium plan, a connected domain, and to be the site owner or an admin. If you already verified your site with Google manually in the past, it is connected already and you do not need to repeat it. Once connected, Wix automatically submits your sitemap to Google so your pages can be discovered.

What is the Wix SEO Setup Checklist (formerly the SEO Wiz)?

It is Wix's built-in, step-by-step SEO tool. You answer a few questions about your business and the keywords you want to target, and it builds you a personalised checklist covering the essentials: connecting to Google, setting your homepage title and description, and making sure your pages can be indexed. It is a solid starting point for a new site, but it covers the basics only. It will not write your content for you, build backlinks, or handle advanced structured data, which is where most of the real ranking gains come from.

Does Wix submit my site to Google automatically?

Partly, and it is worth understanding the limit. Wix automatically generates and updates your XML sitemap, and when you connect your site to Google through the SEO Setup Checklist, Wix submits that sitemap for you. What Wix cannot do is make Google rank you. Submitting a sitemap only tells Google your pages exist. Google still has to crawl, index and then rank them based on their content and quality. So treat the automatic submission as the starting line, not the finish. You should still set up Google Search Console yourself so you can watch what is being indexed and request indexing for your most important pages.

Where is my Wix sitemap and do I need to submit it?

Your sitemap sits at your domain followed by /sitemap.xml, for example yoursite.com/sitemap.xml. Wix generates it automatically and keeps it up to date as you add, edit or remove pages, so you never build it by hand. If you connected your site to Google through the SEO Setup Checklist, Wix has already submitted it and you do not need to do anything else. If you set up Search Console manually instead, submit the sitemap URL once in the Sitemaps section. Either way, you do not need to resubmit it every time you publish a new page, because Google rechecks it on its own.

How long does it take for a new Wix site to show up on Google?

There is no fixed time, and anyone who gives you an exact figure is guessing. Google first has to discover, crawl and index your pages, which commonly takes from a few days to a few weeks for a brand new site. Appearing in search is not the same as ranking well, and ranking takes longer again because it depends on your content, your competition and the authority your site builds over time. You can speed up the discovery part by connecting to Search Console and using Request Indexing on your key pages. Be very wary of anyone promising first-page rankings within days, because that is not how Google works.

What are the first SEO steps after publishing a Wix site?

In order: connect a custom domain rather than staying on the free wixsite.com address, run the SEO Setup Checklist, then connect to Google Search Console. After that, write a clear homepage title and meta description, and go page by page setting a unique title, description, heading structure and image alt text on each one. Once the on-page basics are done, make sure your most important pages are reachable from your main menu, and start publishing genuinely useful content. Foundations first, content and links second. Rushing to build links before the basics are right just wastes effort.

Do I need a paid Wix plan for SEO to work?

For SEO to work properly, yes. You can technically get a free Wix site indexed, but the free plan uses a wixsite.com/yoursite address and holds back some SEO features. Connecting your own custom domain and using the Connect to Google step in the SEO Setup Checklist both need a paid Premium plan. Your own domain is also better for branding and for building authority over time. So if you are serious about being found on Google, treat a Premium plan with a custom domain as the baseline, not an upgrade.
