Managing noindex on Wix members pages without losing authority

Noindexing members-only pages protects your premium content from appearing in search results. But it also means those pages cannot directly contribute to your organic rankings. However, noindexed pages on Wix still participate in your site's internal link architecture — and if linked from indexed pages, they can still pass authority signals indirectly through the link graph.
How Noindexed Pages Affect Internal Link Authority
A noindex tag tells Google not to include a page in search results, but it does not prevent Google from crawling that page or following the links on it. This means that links from noindexed pages to other indexed pages do contribute to PageRank flow, but more importantly, links from indexed pages to noindexed pages are where the SEO architecture consideration matters most.
Structuring Internal Links for a Membership Site
- Link from indexed public pages to signup and premium overview pages — these links serve both SEO and conversion
- Do not link from premium members pages to your public service pages (this is fine and carries some authority)
- Ensure your public pages link to each other strongly — members content should not be the only path to reach key pages
- Create a clear public site section that is fully interlinked independent of the members area
- Use your free blog content as the primary internal linking hub for your public site
Using Robots.txt vs Noindex for Members Content
- Noindex robots meta tag: the correct choice for members-only pages — Google crawls but does not index
- Robots.txt disallow: not recommended for members pages — prevents crawling but Google may still index the URL without content
- Login page redirect: when Googlebot is redirected to login, the members page URL may still be indexed without content
- Wix handles members page noindex automatically through the Members Area settings
How to audit and manage noindex settings for Wix Members Area pages
- Run a full crawl of your Wix site using Screaming Frog SEO Spider (free up to 500 URLs) to map all pages and their indexability status.
- In the crawl results, filter for pages that are set to noindex and cross-reference them against pages in your Members Area — confirm all gated pages are correctly noindexed.
- Identify any members-only pages that are NOT noindexed and open them in the Wix Editor, then go to Page Settings > SEO > Advanced and enable noindex.
- Review the internal link map from Screaming Frog to identify all indexed public pages that link to members-only pages — this is your public-to-private link flow.
- Ensure your public navigation (header, footer, and in-page links) does not route visitors to members content as the only path to reach key public pages like your contact or service pages.
- In the Wix Editor, audit your public homepage and top-performing blog posts — ensure they have strong internal links to other public pages (services, about, blog category pages) independent of the members area navigation.
- Check that your public blog and free content pages link to each other through contextual in-text links — this creates a standalone public authority network.
- Submit your sitemap in Google Search Console and verify under the Coverage report that members-only pages appear as Excluded (noindex) rather than Valid.
- After restructuring, rerun the Screaming Frog crawl monthly to monitor that no new members pages have been accidentally set to index.
How to Manage NoIndex Settings for Wix Members Pages
Use this workflow to audit and correctly configure noindex on all Wix Members Area pages while maintaining a strong internal link structure for your public site.
Auditing and managing noindex settings for Wix Members Area pages
- Run a full crawl of your Wix site using Screaming Frog SEO Spider (free for up to 500 URLs) — go to screaminfrогseo.com, download, install, and enter your Wix site URL to start the crawl.
- In the Screaming Frog crawl results, filter for pages with a noindex directive — cross-reference against your Members Area page list to confirm all gated pages are noindexed.
- Identify any Members Area pages that are not noindexed and open each one in the Wix Editor, then go to Page Settings > SEO > Advanced and enable the noindex option.
- In Screaming Frog, use the Internal > All Inlinks filter to map which indexed public pages link to members-only (noindex) pages — this is your public-to-private link flow.
- Review your public navigation (header and footer) to ensure critical public pages like Contact, Services, and About are directly accessible without routing through the members area.
- In the Wix Editor, audit your homepage and top-performing blog posts — add contextual internal links to other public pages (services, about, blog categories) to build a standalone public authority network.
- Check that your public blog and free content pages link to each other through in-text contextual links, creating a self-contained public linking cluster that does not depend on the members area.
- In Google Search Console, submit your updated sitemap under Sitemaps and then open the Coverage report — confirm all members pages appear as Excluded (noindex) rather than Valid.
- Set a quarterly calendar reminder to re-run the Screaming Frog crawl and confirm that no newly created members pages have been accidentally set to index.
- After restructuring your internal links, recheck Google Search Console Performance after 30 days to confirm that organic traffic to your public pages has not been negatively affected by any link architecture changes.
